West Bengal Pollution control board bans pet coke and furnace oil.

The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) has developed a policy to prohibit pet coke and furnace oil as industrial fuels in the state to curb pollution. Pet coke and furnace oil are the fuels of petroleum origin and are the cheapest. At the same time, it contains high quantities of volatile compounds and sulphur content. So, on burning, they emit high amounts of carbons. The industries have been given a time frame of 18 months for switching to alternative fuels.
